Bug Description

Can't create ubuntu live image.

$ lb config -m http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu --mode ubuntu --distribution precise

It seems to be solved in this email thread: http://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2012/03/msg00094.html
Fix is included in 3.0_a46-1, but this package is not in Precise yet.

The attachment "Add the upstream fix for this issue as a patch" of this bug report has been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is in fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag 'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

Ubuntu uses package seeds, so default live-build's Debian specific configs will not work.

You can use config files provided in the livecd-rootfs package as per instructions here:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2011/06/msg00152.html

I have just competed amd64 precise build using above instructions (slightly modified, e.g. execute the scripts instead of symlinking / copying them as the names clash) but it did build the rootfs fine.

Can you reproduce the problems you are facing using the livecd-rootfs scripts which use ubuntu seeds and ubuntu specific live-build configs?

Unsubscribed ubuntu-sponsors team as the proposed patch/debdiff is not needed in ubuntu if correct configuration is used as per above comment.

I think the "ubuntu mode" of live-build should work regardless if the "official" process needs it or not. Otherwise it should better be dropped altogether. "Half working" shouldn't be acceptable. If the maintainers of the package don't care / want this then Serge you could take a look at this:

https://github.com/squibbylinux/live-build.squibby

It is our (very light, just 2-3 small patches) "fork" of live-build that has been tested to build at least kubuntu precise derivatives. (Just look at the commit history to find the solutions to your problems). Unfortunately for the other problems you also faced (lack of live-config etc) the solutions are kind of "quick hacks", not really suitable for merging, due to lack of time. I hope it will help in any case.
