Bug Description

Latest version of Liquidprompt is 2.1.2 as of 12/22/22 (from github page).

The current version in the ubuntu 22.10 repository is from 2016 (6 years ago)! Debian versions in Bookworm and Sid are current.

It's not a HUGE deal as I can get the latest version using linuxbrew, but given Debian testing and unstable have the latest versions maybe we could get the Ubuntu repositories updated? Maybe for the next release in April?

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu better.

Normally this package would be synced automatically from Debian unstable. However, the package currently contains some additional Ubuntu changes. (You can tell from the "ubuntu1" in the version number, see https://patches.ubuntu.com/l/liquidprompt/liquidprompt_1.11-3ubuntu1.patch for details)

So in order to get a new version, someone needs to look at whether that patch is still required. If it is one can make a merge with the latest version from Debian and the Ubuntu changes on top. If the changes has been integrated either in Debian or upstream, or are no longer neccessary, then the changes can be dropped and the packaged synced manually. I'm afraid I don't know enough about either this package or the extra Ubuntu changes to say.

So I took a look a the patch, it's not anything specific to Ubuntu. It's just a bunch shell script of tests to if you are running an interactive shell or not, and a test to see if you are running a decently recent version of bash.

Honestly I don't know why this patch is here. Maybe in this version there were problems with it running if it wasn't an interactive.

Here is what i KNOW. I installed the latest version from homebrew (linuxbrew) which is not patched at all from the github source and there isn't any problems. It works fine. Interactive or not.

But even if there WAS, this is the sort of thing the user should be doing independent of the software, not something that should be patched.
