I have the same problem, only in 32 bit.

Too bad this is a 1 year old bug and it still exist in ubuntu!

Found a way to make it work but i need to insmod every time i use the stick :(

Got the same problem in Kubuntu 12.10 - with or without the kernel module "dvb-usb-rtl28xxu" loaded.

Seems fixed in Kubuntu 13.10.
me-tv finds the device.
gnuradio works, too (after unloading the kernel-module "dvb-usb-rtl28xxu").
