Do you know if this issue happened in a previous version of Ubuntu, or is this a new issue?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Thank for link on 3.4-rc version ubuntu kernel. In 3.4-rc this device TEW-646UBH work NORMALLY, without black screen of death on remove..

Error with "Black scrren of death" only on 3.2 and 3.3 kernel.

In driver R8712u this stick work in minimal mode, not monitor mode (aircrack dump, aircrack mon)...

Wait for front news.

After googling I've arrieved to this bug. The same happens to me.
I have a Belkin USB WiFi adapter, output from "lsusb":
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 050d:845a Belkin Components F7D2101 802.11n Surf & Share Wireless Adapter v1000 [Realtek RTL8192SU]
It works in previous version of Ubuntu (11.10 - Oneiric), but after distro update the problem of this bug appear.

I've achieved to solve the problem, and just for sharing the things I did was:
1) I tried to update to kernel 3.4-rc4 as Joseph suggested, but it happens the same.
2) I tried to downgrade to kernel 3.0.0-17, the same that Oneiric used, and voilá now it works.

I read, googling, that the driver r8712u (used by Realtek RTL8192SU) is broken in kernels 3.2 and 3.3. And, at least for me, is broken too for version 3.4.

Thank you all.

I can add a little to the information above. I've

With vmlinuz-3.2.0-24-generic, kern.log included the following, after (I think, merely) typing "ifconfig":

.. and a call trace (I can supply if needed). The part implicating the dongle seemed to be:
Apr 29 09:42:17 asparagus kernel: [ 52.248381] EIP is at firmware_free_data+0x30/0x60

In general 3.2.0-24 was subject to hangs/freezes when trying to anything involving the network (like reporting a bug).

I then booted vmlinuz-3.0.0-17-generic, the last kernel under 11.10, and it (continued to) work fine. I then tried
a couple of recent upstream kernels, the last being 3.4.0-999-generic #201205060405. They both worked
fine, so far as the dongle was concerned. But both these seemed to have serious ext4 bugs (to do with
ext4_mb_generate_buddy, brought on using rsync). So, devil vs. deep blue sea.
(I cannot explain why Fernando had problems with 3.4-rc.)

By the way, the link: http://www.kernel.org/doc/local/git-quick.html#bisect
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Bugs appears to be broken.
