hcmeyer, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
* Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

No, it is not reproducible, or has not occurred again.
The system it occured on has an old Nvidia GeoForce 5200 video chip, which is a constant source of errors and problems.
The system is apt-get updated every morning, no ppa's are being used (that I remember)

There is a test kernel available for this bug at:
  http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp922906-precise/

Can you test this kernel and report back in bug 922906 where or not the test kernel resolved this bug?
