Bug Description

Ubuntu 11.10 64bit
External hdd is ntfs file system.
My external got corrupted and I had to use windows to recover my files. I am very distraught by the regressions and failures of the linux 3.0 kernel. I am not sure if it's upstream or it's ubuntu that messed up my external, but something needs to be done to prevent others from suffering a similar fate.
EDIT: I can unmount/eject and nothing seems to panic my system as opposed to safely removing it.
