[Latitude E5520] Firewire/SD cards not detected

Bug Description

Attaching an external hdd by firewire is not detected by the system. No icon is show on the desktop, the device is not in nautilus and dmesg does not show anything related to the device.

Looks like it has the 02 Micro device that has been causing issues in other systems.
