[HP Pavilion dv4-3011tx Entertainment Notebook PC] Synaptics 7.5 Touchpad doesn't work on Ubuntu 11.04

Touchpad does not work at all with default install of Ubuntu. Adding the option "acpi=off" to kernel fixes the problem, but breaks several other things.

Checking that the touchpad is available and enabled in GPointing and System > Preferences > Mouse settings. Everything looks normal

Tried out synclient while interacting with touchpad. No response:

Also tried:

+ installing hid-multitouch-dkms from the utouch ppa
+ Tried everything on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad
+ modifying the module params:

Tried the following kernel params:

Yes, I am still experiencing this problem. In fact I carry a mouse everywhere, so I would LOVE to see this fixed. I've run apport, but it is very unstable. It failed several times until it succeeded, and it seems that it didn't succeed in uploading everything the first time, so I appologize for the repeated attachments.

I've also done everything in the link you posted, and will attach the output shortly.

Any progress on this? Most users, including myself, are completely in the dark regarding what goes on behind the scenes with bug triage, and what the workload and backlog looks like for various projects. I guess what I'm asking is, should I get my hopes up that this will be fixed before this laptop is obsolete? Or is there a huge list of high priority fixes before this, and I should just give up?

If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.
