After installing Ubuntu 11.04, my touchpad has no vertical scroll. I googled and found the defect can be solved by typing following commands:
$ echo "options psmouse proto=imps"|sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf
$ sudo modprobe -r psmouse; sudo modprobe psmouse
And as a result the touchpad scrolling is back. However, the "touchpad" tab in the "gnome-mouse-properties" is gone (see the attachment) , and I lost syndaemon support to avoid touchpad making trouble when typing.
To sum up, the touchpad is either treated as a touch device with no scrolling, or a 3d-psmouse with no touch device system support.
Below is the result of running tpconfig
Found Synaptics Touchpad.
Firmware: 8.96 (multiple-byte mode).
