Bug Description

Upgradting to natty, my wireless suddenly cease to work.
The card is an Intel Ultimate N 5300 WiFi link. With wicd, I can see
all the wireless spot. However, when I try to connect to my ISP,
I get after a very long wait, this message: "wrong password", or
"caannot get IP address"?

In fact, looking at the dmesg lines, I saw
This is not a problem of wrong password (I have checked it ery carefully)I
or that of my ISP (I am able to connect under maverick).

[ 2350.540298] cfg80211: Restoring regulatory settings

Thus, as I undestand, after having been authenticated, as indicated in

I am deauthenthicated:

[ 2350.461661] wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:14:a8:13:ec:71 by local choice (reason=3)

by the mysterious reason 3 !

Note that no such "eauthenticating" line exists under mavericks. This is also the case
of other laptops under nattty but with an Intel WiFi link 5100 or with a different card.

Why no one handles this bugs. It is a critical bug for me: laptop without wifi, unaceptable.
I may have no choice but to abandon kubuntu.

By the way, it may not be a bug of linux ? Downgrade to linux-image-2.6.35-30-generic
and linux-firmware _1.38.6, which are present in mavarick, _does not solve this bug_,
while there is no such bug under maverick.

So the bug is due to some change from (kubuntu) maverick to (kubuntu) naatty, but what
change ? I just wonder if other distro has this bug ? This would confirm that this is a
(kubuntu) natty bug

PLEASE, PLEASE correct this bug.

Dinh-Tuan Pham, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

In fact, I have found out that this bug is caused by the interaction
between network-manager and wicd. In earlier version of kubuntu,
network-manager is not convivial, or at least I can't figure out
howto start wifi with it. Therefore I have installed wicd and
supressed network manager (since I don't need it). Updating to
natty, i forgot to suppress network-manager (which is installed by
default). Wicd no longer works and I recently found out that
network-manager has prevented wicd to make wifi connection
(because removing it solve the problem). However, I found that
this recent version of network-manager is sufficiently convivial and
usable, while wifi is somewhat slow to get the wifi connection.
Therefore I have reverted to network-manager (since oneric)

In short, network-manager excludes wicd. Is this a bug (or a feature ?)
of one of them ?

I am sorry not to provide this information earlier. I though this bug
has been abandonned.
