Bug Description

My USB scanner (Canon CanoScan Lide 25) doesn't respond to any commands when it's connected via USB 3.0 port. Xsane reports "scanner missing" but I can see it with lsusb:
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 04a9:2220 Canon, Inc. CanoScan LIDE 25

In /var/log/messages I get:
kernel: [ 922.856123] xhci_hcd 0000:05:00.0: WARN: short transfer on control ep
kernel: [ 984.913965] xhci_hcd 0000:05:00.0: WARN: transfer error on endpoint

After connecting it to USB2.0/esata port everything works fine.

Hi Lukasz,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I've tested it with the latest daily build and got exactly the same results.

I have a canoscan LIDE 30 with the same problem. I connect it into a USB 3.0 port no go in a USB 2.0 port on the same machine it works. I can give you all the pertinent information if you need. This is also a problem in Oneiric with the default kernel.

Lukasz Olszewski, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue in a supported release, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>
