Bug Description

****2.6.37-rc2 tested****

I own Asus G73JW-A1 with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10. My notebook has an 8 in 1 Realtek slot card reader, which works perfectly in Windows but not in Ubuntu.
These are identifier and vendor and device id: 05:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device [10ec:5209] (rev 01)
10ec:5209.
I have tried make it work adding usb-storage, tifm_core, tifm_mode and pciehp pciehp-force=1 to /etc/modules file but nothing has changed.
Reading the difference between dmesg output with an sd card inside or not, this hotplug issue compares:
[ 56.991564] pci 0000:05:00.0: no hotplug settings from platform.

I think the system recognize it because this is dmesg output:

Hi delca85,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 687993

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Same thing is happening with me. I have a ASUS G73SW, with an internal Realtek card reader. I have tried Ubuntu 10.10 32bit, 10.10 64 bit, 11.04 32 bit, 11.04 64 bit, and last I went back to the LTS version, and nothing make it work. If I boot from Windows, it works perfectly. I tried to install the linux driver given by the manufacturer, but also not luck.
Let me know when you guys find a cure for this problem. I have researched INTERNET and it seems that Ubuntu is not really friendly with SD card readers.
