Bug Description

I am using a toshiba Qosmio x505-887, Running Ubuntu 10.10 up to date and see this message in dmesg

[ 1.762496] PCI: Using host bridge windows from ACPI; if necessary, use "pci=nocrs" and report a bug

I am not sure if this is related to a package or not. My system BIOS is as updated as Toshiba gets.

:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10
Linux FEDUAV 2.6.35-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 26 17:13:06 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
was there on previous kernel as well.

I have yet to try this as a boot option on my system, I have only been having that I know of so far issues with my wifi but thats a realtek driver issue. I have not noticed or seen any other problems as of yet. With that I am not sure as to what other info I should post yet that would be of help. Please let me know what else I should post to be able to help with this issue or any logs or what not. Thanks for any info and or help with this.

I just tried booting with the this kernel option of acpi_osi="Linux" and that seemed to get rid of some issues and speed up boot time almost 10 seconds. But the same error is still there I am also seeing other "errors" though they may not be such as:
EDAC i7core: Device not found: dev 00.0 PCI ID 8086:2c50
No AGP bridge found
No NUMA configuration found
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Routing Table [\_SB_.PCI0.RP07._PRT]
[ 1.829538] \_SB_.PCI0:_OSC invalid UUID

And a few others, I have attached the dmesg that goes with me booting this way. Is there more info or logs I can provide or try something ? I have been searching for days and really had no luck finding even similar issues relating to this.

I noticed that the hard drive is now not being remounted a ton of times with this option, but still remounting itself.

Thanks

Sorry forgot to mention also the battery says its still not present as well. But seem to get normal battery life out of it. Also lm-sensors does not detect anything either in case that helps.

So is there anything I can try to help fix this or anything I can try with an updated package or packages and compile myself to see if that would fix it? I dont even know where to try and get this working? Also more messages like this are showing up now:

\_SB_.PCI0:_OSC invalid UUID

there are roughly 30 of them now, things seem to be getting even worse as the updates come also I tried Natty and had the same issue as well as even more new problems.

Any advice tips or anything on what to try or what to even look for would be appreciated.

Thanks
JL

Still a year later an nothing even said from Ubuntu as to what if anything is being done. I have seen no fixes or work-arounds mentioned anywhere. I still see it as well in 11.10. If this is not even something to worry about then just say something in response. Though honestly I rarely use Ubuntu now on my laptop due to this error and me running into lots of issues using it as a build machine from issues that were kernel related, which I strongly believe have to do with this since the issue is not on the releases I use listed below.

I mean how can an open bug still not even be decided on nor assigned at the year mark? And this carries over multiple versions.

If there appears to start being activity about this then I will take more time and post actual info if requested. But this appears to be of no concern.

I do not get this Fedora 15, I have not seen this is Fed on the same laptop through 2 releases, nor RHEL 6.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test the latest release candidate kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

Regarding Phillippe Coval's message,
I don't know for certain, but it looks like that message indicates that your BIOS is set to not allow the OS to manage power.

In my BIOS settings, I can set it for BIOS managed power, a custom plan, or OS managed power. I think what the message is indicating is that you have it set to something that disallows the OS managing your power. Check your BIOS settings or if you can't find anything call the company that made your BIOS or who you bought the computer from -- if it is a newer system (post 2008), it SHOULD allow the OS to control the power (BIOS's before that would allow it if the functionality was built into the machine, but it's possible machines before that might not have had the functionality to allow the OS to control the ACPI...

(I got here because I was looking up what this meant:
PCI: Using host bridge windows from ACPI; if necessary, use "pci=nocrs" and report a bug

(what does 'if necessary' mean?) -- later I get:

ACPI Error: No handler for Region [IPMI] (ffff880c04d8c240) [IPMI] (20110623/evregion-373)
ACPI Error: Region IPMI (ID=7) has no handler (20110623/exfldio-292)

ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_EXIST, Evaluating _PMC (20110623/power_meter-773)

(Kernel 3.1.3+IMQ)

I can query the ipmi on the machine and get the power consumption -- but I don't know if it is
in any standard format (I looked at the ipmi output and wrote a prog to parse it...and get the power that way...not through standard calls)...
