Bug Description

I tried to install Ubuntu on my new Acer Aspire One AO521-3782, which I bought specifically for Ubuntu. Unfortunately it turned out to not work with Ubuntu at all. While I wanted to try out from USB stick, the keyboard and the mousepad weren't responding. I could put in an external USB mouse and get going, but it was impossible to install without keyboard support. I was hoping that it will detect the problem and download the drivers (as my netbook was connected to ethernet) but no luck with that either.

It uses the AMD M880G chipset.

Please help.

Some more problems with this model:
1. After suspend, the computer does not come up.
2. Even if a headphone jack is inserted, the main speaker does the talking. Headphone is silent.

This is bad because Acer Aspire One is supposed to be a Ubuntu certified hardware.

Even more problems:
3. Sometimes, during startup, the computer freezes at the blank screen just before the login screen. No disk activity is seen during those freezes.
4. It's not detecting the battery. It always thinks it's on AC power. Even "power management" does not have "On Battery" tab.

Update on problem #3: I had my "/home" encrypted. Now I reinstalled my system without encryption, and the freeze problem seems to have been solved. This was the most serious usability issue- Ubuntu team should look into it.

Other problems (#1, 2, and 4) persist.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in LINUX.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 667027

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

Hi Nitesh,

Thanks for going through the report. Unfortunately I have returned the item to the store already.

When I first reported this bug I couldn't even boot the system (the keyboard was freezing), so I could not use apport. That's why there is no info about package.

Quick update on #3: I thought the problem was gone in the reinstall, but no, the problem returned.

I am very sorry about not being able to help you resolve this. Thanks anyway.

I hope somebody else who runs this machine steps in.

I see that you have also added OpenSuse to the bug tasks. Do you observe the same problem with OpenSuse?

Marked OpenSUSE as affected because of the keyboard issue. After that was solved, I booted into OpenSUSE using a live CD, and it seemed to work. But while installing, the installer crashed, and that was that.
