Bug Description

Using 10.10, drivers don't seem to detect 802.11n capabilities in Intel Wireless 4965 AGN chipset on Thinkpad T61. I can connect to 802.11n networks dual booting into windows.

Hi Ben,

Try to create a file named iwlagn on /etc/modprobe.d/ and put on it

options iwlagn 11n_disable=0 11n_disable50=0

and save it and reload iwlagn module this worked for me

I have a similar problem, but I'm not sure it's exactly the same.
I have a Lenovo W510, I think the card (from lspci) is
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6200 (rev 35)

I can connect fine at home over WPA2 wifi, but at work we use LEAP, and this won't connect. The error I have in kern.log is

phy2: Selected rate control algorithm 'iwl-agn-rs'
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
 wlan0: authenticate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (try 1)
 wlan0: authenticated

 wlan0: RX AssocResp from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (capab=0x431 status=13 aid=0)
 wlan0: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx denied association (code=13)
wlan0: deauthenticating from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx by local choice (reason=3)
 wlan0: authenticate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (try 1)

 wlan0: associate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (try 2)
 wlan0: RX AssocResp from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (capab=0x431 status=13 aid=0)
 wlan0: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx denied association (code=13)
wlan0: deauthenticating from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx by local choice (reason=3)

eventually
Basically, I don't ever get any connection, continually failing. The workaround above doesn't make any difference, but it's not an 802.11n network anyway, I think it's g. I believe that this worked at 10.04 without any patches, but I cannot swear to it.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Ben,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to Pedro Bento, it worked. *BUT* I found out that there was already a file named
intel-5300-iwlagn-disable11n.conf that had the option to disable N !!! where it is coming from ?

What happened:

0. Still on Ubuntu 10.10, Thinkpad W510.
1. New router, with N capabilities.
2. Can connect to G network, not N (Password doesnt seems to work)
3. Windows 7 can do it on that machine ;-(
4. Searched forums...
5. Found this bug !

Thanks.
