cannot access internet (rt2860sta)

I just installed Ubuntu (10.04) on an HP Pavillion

wireless card = 802.11 b/g/n PCI express wireless

and cannot access the internet at all. No wireless networks are showing up and even plugging my PC directly into the wireless router doesn't give me any internet connection.

I have opened the wireless network list and see no networks at all - telling, as I live in an apartment with several networks in range.

Since I installed side by side with Windows 7 I have been able to validate that when stareded up under W7, I get net connectivity fine.

I can connect to the net via my MacBook - my Ubuntu machine cannot connect to the net, which is the basis of this bug :(

Can you save this file of the ubuntu machine on a pen?
/Var/log/syslog
/var/log/dmesg
/var/log/kern.log
then send it with the mac.
Can you please also verify that the md5sum of the downloaded image match with that on the site.

The good news is that by switching my ethernet cable I got on line.
However my wireless network card still doesn't work.
