Bug Description

Hi, my Acer Aspire One have this problem: I wish to suspend it to RAM, so it is suspended, orange LED blinks and everything seems OK UNTIL.... I wish to wake it up, so push one key, the netbook seems come to life BUT without screen.... it is just black.
The only option I have then is to restart computer by hard way (you know, On/Off button).

p.s.: With previous kernel before update, the computer doesn't even fall a sleep so there is a progress and hopefully it is on the right way but it still needs to work on it.

WORKAROUND: It seems to be resolved by using proprietary drivers.

Suspend work on my acer ao521 with this method :D

1) update the BIOS to v1.08 (DON'T install v1.11 !! that is a wrong version !!)

2) MENU > System > Administration > Additional Driver > ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver > activcte

3) open a terminal :
$ sudo apt-get install uswsusp
$ sudo vi /etc/pm/config.d/00s2ram
 - add SLEEP_MODULE="uswsusp"
$ sudo vi /etc/default/grub
 - add "acpi=noirq" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=
$ sudo update-grub

4) reboot the system and enjoy the suspend function

for me workaround doesn't work, with it it doesn't even go to sleep (before that it just didn't wake-up), should I create new file 00s2ram or just edit existing file 00s2ram.swp?
Thanks

it seems that you did not create that /etc/pm/config.d/00s2ram correctly , in VIM , use :wq to save and quit , pls remove 00s2ram.swp also , it just a file temporary created by VIM.

- add "acpi=noirq" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

The acpi=noirq option breaks the detection of battery status change. There is a kernel patch available to make the battery status working on AO251. With acpi=noirq status changes (battery -> powersupply and vice versa) are not propagated to the system. Only after suspend/resume the new status is recognized.

The uswsusp workaround is no option if you want to have a working battery status (with the mentioned kernel patch).

Tommy_CZ, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note you can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the issue remains, run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <BUGNUMBER>

Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream mainline kernel that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

noirq wasn't a choice, I even haven't boot with it. But it worked without it and WITH proprietal drivers, but battery recongition hadn't been working without and with prop. drivers, so...
I'll test it with 12.04.
