Enable Diagnostics Monitor and GPS ports on Gobi 2000

Gobi 2000 is a 3G/GPS mini-pcie card used in many notebooks (lenovo, hp and others).

in bug #554099 (comment 147) Anders Østerholt brought up a patch sent to the linux-usb mailing list, that enables the GPS (and a diagnostic) interface: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/204812/

would be great to get that into maverick and lucid LTS.

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

patch not included in any upstream release nor upstream bug report afaik. has anyone tried to apply the patch to a lucid backports oder maverick kernel?

I applied it to linux-backports-modules-2.6.32-2.6.32/updates/wwan-drivers, got it built and loaded and I now have 3 ttyUSBx devices. Though I can't seem to get anything out of the gps. A few other people have commented on this on thinkwiki: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Talk:Qualcomm_Gobi_2000
So I guess it needs further investigation.

Natty kernel 2.6.37-rc2 has this patch included and 3 ttyUSBx devices are created. Should make backporting easier? GPS still only works for some people though: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Talk:Qualcomm_Gobi_2000
