Obviously I am a newbie and not the ideal person to do this as I am not sure what to ask for, but the bug has to start somewhere.

The 0cf2:6250 ENE Technology, Inc. flash reader is also present in other Acer Aspire One notebooks, including the AO533 and AO532h.

I've been informed by the people at Linuxdriverproject.org that a driver for this flash reader is now available in the linux-next tree and will be merged into the 2.6.37 kernel release.

If you want to download and test the kernel, that'd be greatly appreciated :)

Just tried updating the bios using a windows based application from Acer to BIOS version 3.01 from 1.06 with no result. tried loading MS drivers in WINE but this did not work either. Just noticed identical bugs 99648, 618738, 530277, 571403

Oops, my mistake, to be specific, I am not sure of the name of the component, just that the ENE Technology MR510 is the current model. When I check lsusb I get ID 0cf2:6250 which is not identical to the bugs above but is identical to bug 571402 another model of Aspire One with Windows 7. I haven't been paying attention.

Textureglitch T H A N K Y O U !!!!

That is great news for me and eight others, now I need some real slow newbie instructions on how to do what you said. I should go and ask the tech who recommended I choose certified hardware.

I would love to participate in testing. this seems like an opportune time when using a fresh instal.
I am new to compiling but eager to learn. Canonical support will not help this little subscriber trial anything outside the official repository.
Where is the 2.6.37 you mention?

Hi hamish,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Acer has been quite awkward about the RAM in this model, their agent will supply extra but void warranty if I instal it myself, so by net brick is in the shop until next week.

I would love to test it and I think I MAY be able to follow your instructions then, wish me luck.

I followed the instructions as best I could. another bug report was generated automatically once I had the new kernel loaded and inserted the SD card but I am not sure of the number. The card reader did not appear as a volume either starting with the card in or out of the slot. Hope I have done the right thing and it helps.

I understand the guilty device is a UB6250 from various posts, but I think that may be a false presumtion as according to the ene technology official site all their card readers can be used with "various OS" but there is no UB6250 listed.

PFMJI, but I'd like to add that I too have this problem. The netbook in question is a Packard-Bell Dot SE. The "Packard-Bell" brand is now owned by Acer (found this via Google) and very often Packard-Bell netbooks are practically identical to an Acer Aspire Dxxx model. Just the brand sticker on the case is different. So this Packard-Bell Dot SE netbook also has this card reader device:

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0cf2:6250 ENE Technology, Inc.

So I can't get this to work with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Does anyone know if it works with Maverick (Ubuntu 10.10) or are there any chances that it might be working with Ubuntu 11.04?
