Hi T Maritn, I just fresh installed Ubuntu 11.04 32 bits on a Toshiba c645 (P6100 cpu integrated graphics) and have exactly the same problems.
This laptop does not have HDMI, only VGA, too bad.
I'll try your solution and report here.
