I have a brand new Dell Inspiron N5110 (5110-0604), Ubuntu 11.10 64bits, and suffer the same problem. - To use http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/alps-touchpad/psmouse-alps-0.10/psmouse-alps-dkms_0.10_all.deb directly doesn't work for me (linked in #62). - I don't have the knowledge to do the modifications instructed in #62 so I didn't try it. - I can disable/enable my touchpad using the mouse-to-serio.sh of http://swapspace.forshee.me/2011/11/touchpad-protocol-reverse-engineering.html given in #77
