Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in network-manager.

I have been experiencing this since the last kernel update, I think. I am using 2.6.32-23-generic.

after a random amount of time this shows up in my logs and wireless networking fails to work until reboot:
iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: Error sending REPLY_SCAN_ABORT_CMD: time out after 500ms.

any tips to debug?

I also believe it might have been introduced with the kernel release mentioned by Rick.

I'm updating to the next kernel right now, and I'll report if that fixes things.

I didn't have this problem whatsoever with 9.10. I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and the problem arose. Every subsequent kernel upgrade doesn't fix the issue. I'm using 2.6.32-24-generic right now, and still having the same issues, albeit less frequent. I'll be installing 10.10 fresh, using the 32-bit base and the PAE kernel, thanks to Adobe of course. I really hope this issue doesn't persist on the 32-bit base!

Yeah, 9.10 was flawless, and now things aren't working.
The newest Kernel does not get rid of the problem, though it does make it better than the previous one.

I'm also seeing this issue, on an Acer Aspire 5810T, running 10.04.

Can be fixed by rmmod/modprobe on iwlagn.

Is this bug being investigated?

I had this exact issue on my Intel 5100 wireless card for a long time. Numerous kernel updates have not fixed it. FYI. The trick I learned which would greatly improve the connection stability is to disable the N feature of the device by creating a file:

/etc/modprobe.d/intel-5300-iwlagn-disable11n.conf

In it, put the following line:

options iwlagn 11n_disable=1

Reboot the system and you may notice the improvement, too.

I have also been affected by this bug in all 10.04 kernels. I have a Thinkpad T500 with Intel 5300 AGN wireless card. I will try the fix in comment #12. Usually, in my case it occurs when I'm streaming radio over HTTP using Rythmbox music player.

Simply closing the lid (thus putting the computer in sleep mode) and waking it up usually solved the problem.

I have no had an issue as of lately. However, my wireless signal seems to degrade over the span of a few days. Rebooting resolves the issue and brings the wireless signal back up to full strength. Doesn't seem to affect usability, but incorrectly gauges signal strength. Even with the laptop sitting next to the router, after a few days it will show only 1 bar.

Fabio,

No, rebooting the laptop. Rebooting the router makes no difference to signal strength.

Hello
NP, you can easily remove the non working kernel from synaptic, but I need to know 2 things.
Is your pc set to autosuspend when idle (that mean a resume failure that you can workaround with the screensaver settings)?
When pc is working the connection is good?
Thanks
Fabio
