Greg,

I've been using nvidia-current from the SWAT repo which includes 260.19.06 of the NVIDIA drivers on top of 10.04.

Since I have installed those, the lockup problems I was having with nouveua drivers have gone.

The remaining issue is that the splash and virtual terminal are in a very low resolution and none of the workarounds I have tried have fixed that.
