Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I was playing Speed Dreams (loading a track) and suddenly the hard disk started to thrash (probably because of memory swap). I had time enough to drink some coffee, while I have been waiting for an oom-killer or anything odd.

First of all, it's the 1st time I've got a bug on pulseaudio (never had before, because I always had it disabled, until Xubuntu 10.04 alpha 2). And second, /var/log syslog spitted off tons of lines with pulseaudio blaming some Intel driver that was loaded, but my board shouldn't use it, since it uses a NVIDIA and not an INTEL chip.

When things went back, I noticed the game was muted and I had to exit from Xfce and turn back to get it working again.

My motherboard have an integrated ALC883 sound chip.

And everything works fine outside Skype, playback and recording.

When I set Skype playback to work with pulseaudio it works for some seconds then the entire sound system seems to crash, no more sounds, even outside Skype.

My motherboard is an ASUS P5VD2-X;
And Ubuntu lucid have automatically set VIA Technologies, Inc. VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] (VIA High Definition Audio Controller) (rev 10) as the driver for my motherboard ALC883 integrated sound chip.

Thank you, once more, for the promptly reply.
