Bug Description

have been running 10.04 for several weeks. updated today. ubuntu no longer recognizes my mouse or keyboard so i can't log in. this used to happen up through 9.04 i think and reseating the bluetooth dongle would spur functionality. reseating the dongle has no effect now. both the mouse and the keyboard had worked seemlessly in 9.10 and earlier betas of 10.04. i am running on an old xubuntu 8.10 dvd at the moment. i will attempt to leave the existing 10.04 beta installed as is for a while (hours) in case you want to ask questions about it.

The Dinovo Edge works with lucid but in a different way. The dinovo dongle is now a fully usable BT-Dongle. The bad side, you have to pair your devices.

First you must login, therefore you need a second keyboard. Press the connect button on the backside of the keyboard. Now you can start the pairing trough your bluetooth-manager. Give a random choosen 4 digit keyword for the pairing. After connecting the keyboard, enter this 4 digits on the keyboard and press enter. Now your keyboard should work as before.

How to login without a second keyboard is the problem...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We need some more information from you before we can start working on this bug.

Please run the following command which will attach necessary information:

apport-collect 551816

Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository with 'sudo apt-get install python-launchpadlib'. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report.

If you are using an older release or cannot use apport please at least add the following information (pay attention to lspci's additional options):
First run the following commands:
1) uname -a > uname-a.log
2) dmesg > dmesg.log
3) sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log
4) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
then attach the files separately to the bug report (not pasted into comments or tar/zip-ed).

IS there any way to restore the functionality of the Logitech BT dongle to it normal operating mode? (please)

The worst part of this change is the fact that most mornings the keyboard has lost its BT sync with Ubuntu, sometimes turning the keyboard off and on works, but most time it does not and a red bluetooth light appears on the keyboard meaning that the board cannot reconnect.

Which generally means powering the computer off and on to restore the keyboard and mouse.

Is there anything that can be done to restore the original functionality please?

I have experienced similar problem. Keyboard works @ boot after "standard" Logitech activation using switches on kbd and dongle.
Once logged in using another PS2 kbd all attempts to register / connect has failed, it gives message successful but the line for the kbd never gets "bold" indicating connection.

The keyboard worked once in another machine running 10.4 over the built in BT (not the dongle). Now BT stopped working in the second system aswell.

The kbd works fine in original system under Windows Vista. (and under 9.10 before upgrading)

I tried the fix suggested by ekpyrosis and it does not work for me. the Dinovo edge worked when I first installed 10.4, but quit working about a week later, possibly due to an update. It worked with 9.4 for over a year with no problem.

also, my bluetooth icon disappeared and i can't get it back despite following numerous suggestions.

i only moved to 10.4 because it is the long term version. this is very frustrating ... i must have the wireless keyboard/mouse!

<email address hidden>, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I cannot run apport-collect on this bug for a reason that will become apparent later in this report, but I have good indication that the bug is fixed in the latest nightly release of Kubuntu.

I have been affected by this bug in its many incarnations since it appeared in two years ago in Maverick. The workaround is described in the report of bug 872940 and it has been creeping on and off in Ubuntu as well as in other Linux-based systems (a few months ago it has reached GeeXbox which I use as my media player).

My Logitech diNovo is attached to an old AMD X2 system with nVidia chipset and onboard graphics. The bug was still present in Precise. I tried to boot from the latest Kubuntu Quantal downloaded today from cdimage. The diNovo also worked at the boot stage. When the graphic installer starts, it would stop working in Precise. With the Quantal nightly, the one time I got into the graphic installer, the diNovo kept working. Unfortunately other issues with the nightly prevent me from doing anything meaningful with it (black lines appearing on the screen where there is movement and the screen becomes quickly useless) so my report is incomplete, but this is strong indication that the bug is fixed in the latest development version.

Christopher: why file a new report? this is only about "Ubuntu not working with logitech dinovo bluetooth mouse and keyboard". My other comments are purely incidental and only to explain why I can not run any of the commands that you are asking us users to run. I have no access to the command line on that machine under Quantal, and it is too much effort for me other than just saying: it does not work. I will wait for a more advanced Quantal beta and if I have time I will download the cdimage and try to run it again. If the bug stays the same, I won't be able to run in terminal any command, neither for this bug, nor to report other problems with the installer. sorry. I understand that the architecture I am using (nVidia chipset with integrated graphics and Athlon X2) is obsolete (seven years old) and not very well supported (thank you, nVidia). But this is the machine that I am using the diNovo with, and the only machine I can fiddle with.
