Bug Description

Mint 8 Helena's kernel 2.6.31.14-generic seems to be missing the driver for this WiFi chipset. The driver is available from http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2 (get the top one with the label "RT3090PCIe Date 02/22/2010 Version 2.3.1.4").

modprobe rt3090sta

makes the WiFi work excellently. No stability issues seen.

Can Mint add this driver without waiting for kernel upstream to do so?

Marking as upstream. B Bobo: the link provided is wrong, it results in a 404.

Hi B,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 543896

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I'd really like to help further with this report, but company policy is to disallow h/w details, e.g. apport-collect data, to be sent to 3rd parties, on or off list. Sorry, it is frustrating. Not sure there is anything else I can do.

I've posted the download location for the missing driver above, tested it and confirmed it works fine, and I'd suggest it is worthwhile leaving this report open to help others with the same problem who are searching the bug tracker to find this solution.
