Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have Acer Aspire 5810TG with 2 video adapters: built-in Intel's G45 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330.
Only built-in one is used:
divius@divius-laptop:~$ glxinfo | grep OpenGL

OpenGL extensions:

I've found following lines in dmesg:

[ 11.839559] [drm:radeon_driver_load_kms] *ERROR* Fatal error while trying to initialize radeon.

If I install fglrx drivers, X no longer starts. Manually creating xorg.conf doesn't help.

Looks like an issue with the kernel drm code. Bumping over to kernel team.

Meanwhile, you could try either booting with KMS off or try installing the mainline kernel build which has newer drm.

Where can I find newer kernel? Should I build it manually?

This is an Ubuntu specific problem. It works fine for me with X.Org 1.7.6, kernel 2.6.32 on Arch Linux.

It affects me too. I have a 4810TG acer aspire with ATI radeon HD 4330 running under Lucid beta2. When I had activated the privative controllers I couldn't start the system again, so for now I'm only with the intel graphics.

Same here. I just upgraded from 2.6.31-20 to 2.6.34-020634rc6 from the mainline repository and now neither radeon nor fglrx work.

Dmitry "Divius" Tantsur, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
