This laptop testing page indicates this readers should be supported by the SDHCI driver, however loading it crashed the kernel:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/EverexStepNoteSA2053T

Here's the "SDHCI crashed kernel" bug:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/187671

Testing the latest Ubuntu to see if that crash is there, would help, then we could verify if loding SDHCI makes this reader usable.

Is it possible to use SDHCI Driver?

Please let me know.

NightBat, I am unsure of the driver which should be used for this hardware. The correct driver should be assigned by the kernel automatically. This bug explains that no driver is being assigned to this hardware.

Unfortunately, I do not have this hardware to test if this has been resolved in Ubuntu 10.04. If you have this hardware and would like to test the current development version of Ubuntu, you can boot and test this Desktop Live CD:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

Please update the case if this resolves the issue.

As I understand it, you can not solve this problem.

It is very sad that Ubuntu can not ensure correct operation even an ordinary notebook.
Look like on my laptop under ubuntu is not working such important component as Card Reader.

This mean I cannot get rid Windows that the one support it.

I hope that soon you will fix this problem.

As soon as card reader will work, please let me know.

NightBat,

Unfortunately that does not have to do with Ubuntu as much as it has to do with the Linux Kernel, which is developed at kernel.org (separate project). Ubuntu, or should I say Canonical only ensures correct operation on certified hardware. Please stay subscribed to this bug and update it every time you test a newer release or kernel version, as these updates may resolve the issue.

Unfortunately as we do not have this hardware, we are unable to test to see if this bug has been fixed and will be unable to notify you of a fix. All further testing should be done on this bug by someone with this hardware.

Hi NightBat,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 518465

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I want to inform a very important news. As I created this bug report Card Reader has been tested only on the xD card from Olympus camera. I just received SD card and tested the Card Reader with it. And I was able to read it! This means that the SD-cards correctly read in my card reader!

So a problem in reading the xD.
I checked it out at 10.04 Live CD.

Hey everyone,

A similar issue was reported already:

In my personal case, I am able to read cards, but I get a delay during boot and errors in dmesg, etc.

God bless,
