Bug Description
I believe there is a problem with ALi M5229 chipset. I'm using Karmic, however the same error was present in Jaunty.
Well, as the title indicates my notebook hp nc4010 is stuck in udma2, and obviously every operation involving HDD (Seagate ST9808211A) is very slooooow. I tried switching to udma5 (that's the fastest mode this disk can work in), but all I get is errors:
$ sudo hdparm -d1 -X69 /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
setting xfermode to 69 (UltraDMA mode5)
HDIO_DRIVE_
HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Read timings:
sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 214 MB in 2.00 seconds = 106.87 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 10 MB in 3.46 seconds = 2.89 MB/sec
Here's my hdparm -I output:
