Bug Description

On my hp dv7-2040us the sound comes out from both speakers and headphones if i plug the headphone in.
I'm using Karmic. On 9.04 i had no sound at all, and found a solution for that by modifying the alsa configuration and setting model=hp-dv5 this time it's not working

Here's a list of probably related information

Please reproduce this symptom using
linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic installed.

Wow, that simple?
it worked thanks i'm wondering why i never saw that in forum posts.
Backports get pulled to the main branch eventually though right? so in theory would i have gotten this fix through normal update channels?

Thanks

Probably because you didn't look in the right subforum.

This isn't a backport; its origin is not karmic-backports, as you'll
see if you use "apt-cache policy linux-backports-modules-alsa-$(uname
-r)". It's a backport of newer drivers, yes, but I requested it
explicitly for hardware enablement.
