Manually compiling the latest ALSA solved the problem at least for the playback.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 455346

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

copy these lines to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

and restart the system and please tell me if it works! For my CQ61-125EQ works ;)

Cheers!

Hello,

10x for your reply! I actually tried that, as well as several other snd
models, and none of it worked on my machine with the version of ALSA
supplied with 9.10. Maybe there are differences between all those CQ61
models which are bigger than just the amount of memory, processor, etc.

Anyway upgrading to the latest version of ALSA with the same
configuration solved the problem. Thanks again for the reply!

Regards,
Stefan

works for me when adding the lines to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

thanks a lot
