umount.cifs does not update /etc/mtab

What I expect to happen:

When unmounting a CIFS share, I expect /etc/mtab to be updated to reflect the current status of the system (i.e. that that mountpoint is no longer active).

What actually happens:

umount.cifs works in that the mount is detached, and no longer shows up in /proc/mounts. However, the stale entry is left in /etc/mtab, which makes the output of the 'mount' command misleading at best.

This is an actual kernel bug. That has been fixed in 2..6.30.

Alex G: if you want to suggest to get it fixed for 8.04 LTS, you should nominate this bug for "Hardy", not reopen it (as it is fixed in the current development release). Furthermore, the bug is in the kernel, not samba.
