I am getting a screen with fsck text before boot screen loads

When first booting the computer a grub menu comes up. Then after picking which kernel to boot into the screen goes blank then text appears saying fsck and other things then eventually the splash screen shows up and Ubuntu loads. Then I get a critical crash regarding ecc.
