Bug Description

I am beta testing Karmic. I was previously happy switch from intrepid to jaunty because it got my Rosewill RNX-EasyN1 wireless usb card up and working. I was expecting this to still be the case in Karmic just to find that it no longer picks up wireless networks.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 442409

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I had this problem too, looked at dmesg and the important line for me was
[ 8566.396547] Error: Driver 'rt2870' is already registered, aborting...
after it had mentioned trying to use rt3070sta. To be honest I had never done anything with dmesg before and had no idea what I was doing, but I added the lines
 blacklist rt2800usb
 blacklist rt2870sta
to my /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and after a reboot it works fine when I plug it in.

Hi C.H.E.W.S.,

I reverted the status to confirmed, as described by https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status. "In progress" means that someone is working on a fix, and the bug has been assigned to a developer.

blacklist rt2800usb is the real fix blacklisting both prevents you from using wpa secured networks. I tried blacklisting the sta one only and card did not work it appears rt2800usb is the problem
