[karmic] messages before xsplash starts

You want users to report any messages that are shown after grub loads and before xplash starts (http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/karmic/beta). Here it is:

... then something about usb stuff is printed (will write it as a next comment as I wasn't fast enough to read it, then screen flicker and KMS is enabled, then some messages about stating services are shown and then xsplash starts.

Attached are some of the messages displayed after kernel selected in Grub 2 and before xsplash. These include ACPI messages, fsck messages for every partition, USB messages.

I marked a few other bugs as duplicates of this one, as they have in common complaining about text being displayed before xsplash starts. Some of them mention specific source of the message (nvidia, ACPI, ...), but I believe this bug (if it is a bug) should be fixed in a unified way a not on a case-by-case basis; unmark the duplicates if that is not true.

I've unmarked some duplicates, because those are specific errors that most likely have to be fixed on a case-by-case basis.

I get a black screen with a blinking cursor for 6 seconds or so (it used to say "Starting up..." before I upgraded to GRUB 2). Then I get boot messages that slowly appear in Ubuntu's console font. Only late into the boot process do I get the xsplash progress spinner.

I'm attaching the boot messages I get.
