Here are the messages. These were not in kern.log or syslog.log. This is a clean install of the beta, on one of several partitions I have including the default windows/repair partitions and a jaunty partition:

After that, I get a blank screen for awhile, till the Ubuntu logo shows up with the progress bar. I swear that on booting the livecd, there was another splash screen...
