Bug Description

i am using Ubuntu 9.04 on a Medion akoya p8610.
what i expect: put cd in laptop. boot. choose try ubuntu... ubuntu starts up. done
what happend: put cd in laptop. boot. choose try ubuntu... kernelpanic.
my work around: (from a ubuntu help forum) boot with cd. hit f6. replace quiet splash with acpi=off nopic pnpbios=off
that way ubuntu boots without the splash screen an all kinds of letters and stuff comes raining down. after that i can work with live cd.

Hi wouter215,

Could you try the newer Karmic 9.10 Alpha release? It contains a much newer 2.6.31 based kernel. I'd actually recommend maybe waiting a day or two since the newest Alpha6 is scheduled to be released tomorrow. Please let us know your results.

I've tried ubuntu karmic 9.10 alpha 6 via mu usb drive.
boot usb, choose first option. kernel panic?

this time it's a different kind of kernel panic, it just hangs after 2 seconds.
the workaround i used with 9.04 still works an karmic boots the same.
should i include screen shots(screen photos with my digital camera) to show the difference in kernel panics?

i have burned a cd with ubuntu karmic alpha 6 and tried to boot.
close cd tray, boot laptop, choose nederlands(dutch), choose first option
then 2 lines of text appear for .01 seconds, then blank for 10 minutes! then kernel panic...
still the ubuntu 9.04 work around works just fine.
i expect to see a nice ubuntu logo with a loading bar, not text.

i install the live usb with unetbootin on windows, install takes 2 hours?, reboot, choose usbkey in bios, reboot, i get a unetbootin screen with three options: default, HELP, oem something. (why doesn't unetbootin use the ubuntu cd bootloader? )
i select default, kernelpanic
i secelt default, press tab, change quiet splash -- to acpi=off noapic pnpbios=off quiet splash --.
unetbootin bootloader sais it unpacks something(this takes 2 secconds), something (what i think is the splash screen) that looks like my screen is burning a brown spot(ubuntulogo shaped), the screen flashes 2 times and the live cd desktop starts, i open firefox and write this comment.
default setting results in kernel panic. the acpi=off noapic pnpbios=off quiet splash -- workaround still works.

well, it should be good to have the debug-output of the crash, but i think a screenshot won't show all the output ... maybe it's somewhere logged (dmseg?), i don't know (but would be rly usefull).
