This bug was fixed in jaunty, but in karmic it exists. The ALSA driver snd_hda_intel does weird things, according to PulseAudio:
E: alsa-util.c: snd_pcm_avail() gibt einen Wert zurück, welche außerordentlich groß ist: 423680 bytes (2401 ms).
E: alsa-util.c: Dies ist wahrscheinlich ein Fehler im ALSA-Treiber 'snd_hda_intel'. Bitte melden Sie diesen Punkt den ALSA-Entwicklern.
