As far as I know, nobody's able to resume Acer Timeline machines from suspend. I've just upgraded Karmic and the resume still fails with kernel linux-image-2.6.31-10-generic 2.6.31-10.35. More specifically, the machine enters suspend fine and the power led starts to blink orange. A press of the space key turns the fan on, the power led turns blue, then after a few seconds the machine shuts down again, then reboots.

We`re getting closer to the final release of karmic and this bug still exists. I`m getting a little nervous that it won't be fixed until the the final release. Is there anything we can do to have the status change to "Confirmed" ?

status: New → Confirmed

I can change the status. Didn`t know that. So the question will be, what can we do to have the status change to "solved" :)

I`ve just tested with the new BIOS ver 1.13 -> still not resuming from suspend. BTW ppl with a acer 3810t/3410t have the same problem.

I've read in an opensuse forum (forgot the link) the problem seems to be coz of the HDD failing to start as the machine resumes.
It fits well with log of this bug report ("No such file or directory" errors).

Or rather the SATA controller, because i have the same problem, but i have an intel SSD disk. I`ve also testet the latest mainline kernel without success...

Seems as if other Acer notebooks are having a similar problem:

see:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1165087&page=57

It seems as if Acer fixed this for the 4810t series but not for see others (see thread).

rojer, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Karmic reached EOL on April 30, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you please attach all relevant information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
