Bug Description

Karmic is missing a package for the perf tool.
The perf tool is described at http://lwn.net/Articles/339361/.

Since the kernel is compiled with perf_counter support
the perf tool should really be added:

# grep "PERF_COUNTER" /boot/config-2.6.31-10-generic
CONFIG_HAVE_PERF_COUNTERS=y
CONFIG_PERF_COUNTERS=y

Filed for package linux since the perf source is part
of the kernel source tree.

Will there be a package for karmic?
The perf tool IMHO would be a worthwile addition to help users provide useful data for performance bugs.

maybe Lucid too?
IMHO this is important for boot performance improvement because 'perf timechart' is good replacement of bootchart (but needs some works like rewriting bootchartd to use 'perf timechart').

The perf tool still seems to be missing as of Lucid Alpha 3.
