Bug Description

Ubuntu version: 9.04

no sound on my Acer Aspire 6920, found the selution
Steps i took:
1. Add “options snd-hda-intel model=auto” without quotes at the end of this file “/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf".
2. Restart and the sound works.

Now for the Bass
First, download hda-verb:

wget ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/misc/hda-verb-0.3.tar.gz

Then, i did have to extract the archive and compile hda-verb like this:

tar -xvmf hda-verb-0.3.tar.gz
cd hda-verb-0.3
make

copy the compiled file into the system directory:

sudo cp hda-verb /usr/local/bin

To finish, edit the file “/etc/rc.local“. need to add this “/usr/local/bin/hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0×15 SET_EAPD_BTLENABLE 2” on a new line just before the line that contains the word “exit” without the quotes.

Then sound and Bass worked for my Acer Aspire 6920!

Took help from http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2009/04/29/acer-aspire-6920-bass-not-working-on-ubuntu-jaunty-904/ and http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2009/04/29/acer-aspire-6920-no-sound-on-ubuntu-jaunty-904/

Can you run "apport-collect -p alsa-base 403064"? It looks like there's an incorrect quirk setup in the kernel if =auto works for you.

This bug is very similar to #218165. The support for Acer's newest intel hda was not yet present in alsa.

The best solution is to upgrade to Alsa 1.20 (or upgrade to Karmic).

(I have the same laptop and Alsa 1.20 made everything work, except the mic...)

Hi Morno,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 403064

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
