Bug Description
I have:
Linux cpbl-server 2.6.28-13-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 22:12:12 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Asus S62E
lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04
Also troubleshooting script says I'm using snd_hda_intel with:
!!HDA-Intel Codec information
!!-----
--startcollapse--
Codec: Realtek ALC883
More detail in attachment.
Previously, headphone and speakers worked fine. Upon installing 9.04, speakers work but when headphone inserted, no sound out of speakers or headphone. Sound level settings are all on/high.

I don't understand why, but this solves it:
*open volume control
*open preferences
*tick surround channel
*close preferences
*unmute surround channel
(Thanks to "minj" on ubuntu forums.)
