Sorry, I went on a duplicate spree last night and accidentally used the wrong one as the base. Retagged to the right bug!

Try this:
In /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
Add the following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

Does that fix the issue?

Hi, I need your help

1- there is only a alsa-base.conf file on etc, it is working as well?

2- I don't know where to get the authorization under System/Authorizations to add content to a file system.

Thank you

Prodigious Penguin:
Did you first verify that both bugs are for the *exact* same hardware? If not,
you probably did more harm than good. Many bugs with different root causes and
thus different fixes will cause the same symptom.

On bug 115637 the hardware in question has SSID 1179:0500
On bug 210854 the bug's owner no longer has the hardware, but there is another
user who has sort of taken over the bug. This user's hardware has SSID
103c:30f1

Not the same hardware.

Sorry, I was unaware that the codec entries played a factor in this issue. C de-Avillez contacted me this morning and had me talk to dtchen about codec differences on IRC. Sorry for the inconvenience this caused; just wanted to try and expedite the solution to this issue. I will definitely ask questions on IRC before making any changes in the future.

Alright folks. Please post the following:
Output of "lscpi -nv | grep -A1 0403"
Whether it works on a Karmic Beta live CD or not

This way we can figure out which of you are actually on the same bug and which
are not. Thank you.

Mackenzie, shouldn't this be asked on the main bug all those duplicates have been assigned?

I come from a bug somebody also marked as a duplicate to the same bug this report is marked as a duplicate of, anyway:
$ lspci -nv | grep -A1 0403
00:1b.0 0403: 8086:3a3e
 Subsystem: 1458:a102

(It's an Intel ICH10 MB, a GB EP45-DS4).

Also, when choosing Analog Headphones (instead of Analog Output) in the output tab of Sound Properties, no sound is heard either from the Headphones or from the speakers.

Loic:
Fair enough..I was trying to see if even this one bug report full of folks
saying "me too" is really a single bug report or should be split. Trying to
go through one bug report at a time seemed somewhat less confusing than wading
through all of them at once.
