Yes, tried it.

I also tried to remove it first with modprobe -r uvcvideo and then reload it but it didn't work.
After that it didn't even find the camera.

When this occured to me i to tried to rmmod uvcvideo and modprobe uvcvideo but i got an error which said
FATAL error insterting uvcvideo (blabla): cannot allocate memory

Although i found a way to bypass this error. you have to logout which result to the restart of x and then when you login again by doing modprobe uvcvideo there is no error and camera works again

Hi Patricio,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 386799

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

This bug should be reopened. I have a "Suyin HP Webcam" on my HP Pavilion dv7-1232NR with Ubuntu Lucid 2.6.32-23-generic (64 bit). The webcam works fine after a reboot, but suddenly stops responding. The modprobe commands actually make the problem worse; after sudo modprobe -r uvcvideo and sudo modprobe uvcvideo, Cheese Webcam Booth reports "no device found." But the camera is still connected:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 064e:c107 Suyin Corp.
I have the same problem with HP Pavilion dv6000. The lsusb command doesn't show camera at first. I am able to run cheese, but after some time it freezes and then only reboot helps bringing camera back. The modprobe command doesn't help. I have all latest updates of the ubuntu 10.04. It used to work flawlessly in 9.04.

Thanks for the tips!

I gave up a while ago, got a new camera fully supported and I did not had any problems since.

It was still a Logitec model, ( C200 if I am not wrong, I can't remember now and I am not in front of it now)

I put the one with problems on a Windows PC where it is performing well.

Hopefully others will benefit of your advice.

Cheers!
