Bug Description

It just happens. This is on a Dell Inspiron 1521, an upgrade from 8.10. There's no one around, the machine isn't doing anything important, and suddenly things start receiving shutdown signals. The following appears in daemon.log and syslog and then the machine powers down.

I just had a spontaneous shutdown that I think is caused by this bug (same message in my log, followed by everything shutting down). I've never had one before, having been running Ubuntu since 7.04 and installing Jaunty in June 2009.

Relevant portion of my syslog below, and HardInfo report attached - hope they're useful.

I appreciate this sounds somewhat random, but then so it the fault!

My system only seems to do this spontaneous shutdown when I'm running the Terminal Server Client. I have this installed as part of the standard Ubuntu install, and it reports version 0.150.

Note also, also though the description of the bug is 'Jaunty Upgrade...' I did a fresh install of Jaunty to build my system, but kept my existing /home (and therefore user settings) from Intrepid.

Is this bug reproducible with the latest Lucid or Maverick packages ?
Tanks in advance.

sorry, this hardware will not run with anything above 8.04, I have given up
trying.

Hi Fabio, without a better understanding of the logs I can't comment on the offending package, however given it results in a shutdown perhaps it would be reasonable to assume it's a kernel problem?
