I apologize for my inexperience, I made just now is the memory test and I got errors, but the result seems strange to me.
All bits are incorrect.
The memory is actually damaged or is it a false positive?
abePdIta (abepdita) wrote : | #10 |
I have used for some time the kernel 2.6.24-23.52 and I have not found errors
I am convinced that the problem is therefore the latest version of the kernel..
maybe in conjunction with the ati driver..
Kevin C (annakevinc) wrote : | #11 |
I have the same problem, except using Kubuntu Karmic with kernel 2.6.30-8-generic and no fglrx or other proprietary drivers.
The system freezes at apparently random time and any application with the num light illuminating, Nothing can unfreeze it. Only power off.
abePdIta (abepdita) wrote : | #12 |
The problem persists even with kernel 2.6.28-13.17.
No suggestions?
Heinrich Wesseling (h-wesseling) wrote : | #13 |
I have the same problem with Kubuntu 8.04.3 LTS and kernel 2.6.24-24, but apparently only if I use the Cisco VPN client via WLAN.
Sameer (sameeryousuf) wrote : | #14 |
I have the same problem as Heinrich except I am on Ubuntu Karmic and kernel 2.6.31-12. VPN crashes computer with flashing caps lock and scroll key.
Cory Davis (cory-d-davis) wrote : | #15 |
I see the same issue with Karmic 2.6.31-14. Found reports that it is caused by the combination of the Cisco VPN client, WIFI, and a multi-core cpu. Disabling all but one core while running the cisco vpnclient stopped the crash in my case.
echo 0 > /sys/devices/
abePdIta (abepdita) wrote : | #16 |
In my case, with Karmic and 2.6.31-14 everything works fine, even ati radeon accel.
No more crashes! I'm happy!

Hi abePdIta,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-
apport-collect -p linux 372671
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, my mistake.
Obviously this is not more an issue, at least with kernel 2.6.31.
The problem was with 2.6.24 and until the upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 it remained an issue.

I'm new to apport, not sure my previous "commit" was right, sorry if not.
I'm not sure that my issue relates to the one described in this ticket, but the symptoms are similar. I'm aware of the fact that this could mean lots of different things, but will see.
I've discovered that when I put my wifi card into the box I'm gett full crashes. I used Karmic before and just before upgrading to Lucid I put the HW into the box, so not sure whether it has anything to do with Karmic or Lucid. I guess, it is rather to my wifi card.
What I've found is that when I use a voip softphone, than it crashes during voice calls. I've suffered this issue lots of time and did not get crash when I was not in call. This might relate with networking, thus with wifi. In my voip call I'm sending/receiving roughly 150 bytes/20ms packets.
I was not able to artificially reproduce the issue, so cannot really tell what exactly causes it.

I just ran into this problem with Lucid 2.6.23-32 (64bit). The Cisco VPN Client crashes the whole system, only the caps lock key keeps flashing.
