Hi Frankie,

Is this still an issue for you? If so, can you boot with the 'quiet' and 'splash' options removed and take a digital photo of how far your system is able to make it through the boot sequence? To remove the options temporarilyt, press 'Escape' key at the 3 second pause by Grub bootloader. Then press 'e' (edit) on the buggy kernel entry, followed by 'e' again on the kernel line. Then remove the 'splash' and 'quiet' keywords and press 'b' to boot. Thanks.

Additionally, I'd be interested if this issue also occurs with the upstream mainline kernel. Care to give it a test as well? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds for more info, I'd suggest trying the 2.6.20-rc8 kernel as of this posting. If this fails to boot with the upstream kernel, we'll want to also notify the upstream developers as well. Thanks.

Dell Inspiron 2650 hangs during boot of Ubuntu 9.04. This happens the same way whether booting from the Live Desktop CD, or from an already working copy of 9.04 on the hard drive. (That is, the hard drive was removed from the 2650, installed on another type of computer, then 9.04 was installed from CD on that system, then re-installed the hard drive back into 2650.) Two different i2650's hang the same way.
The last two lines of boot message, as copied from screen:
[ 0.782477] pci 0000:00:1e.0: MEM window: 0xe8000000-0xe80fffff
[ 0.782572] pci 0000:00:1e.0: PREFETCH window: 0x00000030000000-0x00000035ffffff
The above last lines are the same each time. Attached is a digital photo of the screen.

I have found the same problem happens with Ubuntu's 2.6.28-13-generic. The output from my machine is identical to Gary Hasson's.

I have tested a few mainline kernels:
linux-image-2.6.27-02062725-generic_2.6.27-02062725_i386 since it's the latest of the 2.6.27 series, the Ubuntu version of which I am currently using and is working for me:
Seems to work fine. Using it now.
linux-image-2.6.28-02062810-generic_2.6.28-02062810_i386 since it's the latest of the 2.6.28 series, the Ubuntu version of which is not working for me:
Gets to the same stage as shown by Gary Hasson.
linux-image-2.6.30-020630-generic_2.6.30-020630_i386 since it's the latest I could see:
Gets to the same stage as shown by Gary Hasson.

I did not try the 2.6.20-rc8 kernel as this version didn't seem relevant and I thought it might be a typo of 2.6.30-rc8. However, if this would be a good kernel to test I will try this one also.
