Bug Description

Machine (Samsung P35 XVM III) suspends to RAM, after pressing the power button to resume the computer from standby HDD spins up, but screen keeps either black or shows "psychedelic" patterns.

Hibernation / suspend-to-disk works without problems.

See attached /var/log/kern.log .

After trying to resume from standby the machine doesn't react on network requests (e.g. ping or ssh).

Also on a Samsung P35.

Suspend to RAM worked in Hardy, not in Intrepid, neither in Jaunty (nor in Gutsy before).

Please let me know, what to do to get Jaunty's standby work (I do not intend to fall back to Hardy).

In my view, suspend to RAM is one of the very essential features for use in productive environments.

I do not see why working configurations are removed.

I found a workaround for the problem described above (at least it works on my computer, too):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal-info/+bug/217482

Make sure you have a recent /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-samsung.fdi (from hal-info package) installed.

Use "radeonfb" kernel module instead of "vesafb":
- add kernel boot option "video=radeonfb:mode_option=1024x768-16@60" (resolution might differ of course)
- add "radeonfb" entry in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
- run update-grub and update-initramfs
- reboot

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest Karmic 9.10 release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If the issue remains, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 366156

Thanks in advance

Updated to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Beta (Kernel 2.6.32-18). Suspend to RAM und resume now works fine without any workarounds on a Samsung P35 XVM III.
