Bug Description

I'm running Jaunty with the latest updates as of today and resume from suspend doesn't work on a Toshiba Satellite A200. When resuming, the screen remains blank and nothing seems to happen. However, hibernation happens to work fine on the same hardware.

== Update ==
My mistake, the problem was indeed originally for suspend. However, after installing the proprietary ATI driver, suspend started to work. I even tried suspending a few times just to make sure.

There is now a problem with hibernation, as described above, where "the desktop is completely blank: no menu, neither at the top nor the bottom of the screen" after resuming from hibernation. So, it turns out the hibernation debugging information might prove to be useful.

Reassigning to the "linux" kernel package.

Marc,

Can you take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume and provide any additional debug info outlined there. Particularly the "Debugging Suspend" section. Thanks.

Here are a few notes from the instructions on the DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume wiki page:

1. After changing the defoptions in the menu.lst to only contain no_console_suspend and then runnign pm-hibernate from vt1, the system was able to resume from hibernate. Furthermore, I was also able to change to vt7 and the graphical interface was working properly.

2. This now seemed like an Xorg problem so I installed the proprietary driver for the ATI graphics controller and hibernated again. This time, the system didn't freeze on the splash screen but on the desktop which was completely blank: no menu, neither at the top nor the bottom of the screen.

So, I proceeded to run the subsystem tests from the wiki page. The results will be attached below.

From the bug description I was under the impression hibernation worked fine and the issue was with suspend? If this is indeed the case, can you run pm-suspend vfom vt1 and let us know your results? Thanks.

Since it's not likely the kernel team will be able to help much with patching a proprietary driver, it would probably be best to still attach the pm-suspend info for the original test case of suspend failing and hibernate working.
