I make it worked by adding the line: "options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba model=uniwill-m31"
to the end of the file: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
still got some problems like controlling the volume, using phones or any jack (microphone too).

I thought it was fine, but it doesn't work again.
the only thing i did was updating.
the alsa-base.conf is still the same.

I have a Toshiba A166 with Realtek ALC861, no sound at all when i installed Ubuntu 9.10
I edited /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and put this on a new last line:
options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba
Now the sound is on but its very very low, and in alsamixer is all at maximum

Hi Ddorda,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 353504

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

First of all, it is still an issue! well.
2nd thing, as much as i know the problem is something with ALSA
configuration, since I once succeed make it output something (more or less),
but after the next Ubuntu update it was removed and i wasn't able to recover
it...
